Summary
Patients with chronic pain cannot be successfully treated and returned to routine functioning, including work, unless and until their condition is accurately assessed. In this course, attendees will learn the components of a comprehensive assessment and effective treatment strategies for chronic pain patients. Outcomes based healthcare will be stressed throughout the workshop with consideration given to clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of treatment options currently available and in use. Significant cost savings associated with comprehensive assessment and multidisciplinary treatment compared to available alternatives such as surgery, pharmacological treatment, regional anesthesia, implantable devices, and passive physical modalities will be described.
