Executive Summary

While there has been a decline in deaths related to occupational illness and injury events, the number of work-related disabling illnesses and injuries continues to rise. Also, workers experience and present with chronic illnesses in the work place that may be exacerbated by work conditions. Both of these situations lead to reduced quality of life and lost work time. Neither the employee nor employer benefits. This course will address case management practice, legal and ethical ramifications, and work return issues. Expected outcomes, their measurement, and cost management approaches will also be discussed.

Workshop Objectives

1. Discuss case management concepts and practices.
2. Describe psychosocial aspects of care.
3. Examine legal and ethical issues in case management.
4. Identify risk factors and effective strategies for work return.
5. Discuss outcomes management.
