At the completion of Advanced Medical Malpractice Survival Training for Urologists, attendees will be able to:
  • Be an effective witness in their own defense
  • List multiple simple and effective techniques to better manage malpractice risk
  • Explain the laws and procedures that govern malpractice cases
  • Understand what persuades malpractice jurors and how those jurors make decisions
  • List multiple techniques to protect assets from seizure as a result of lost lawsuit
  • Understand their rights and responsibilities under professional liability insurance policies
  • Describe how the plaintiff and defense lawyers evaluate and litigate malpractice cases
  • List the many factors to consider in deciding whether or not to settle a case and how much to settle for
  • Describe how to effectively work with defense counsel and insurers
Faculty:

Stacy Childs, MD
has been in practice sine 1977, is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He holds memberships to over 15 professional organizations and societies and is the chairman of Liability Insurance Reform Committee for the Wyoming Medical Society.  Dr. Childs is currently a Clinical Professor of Urology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and on Adjunct Professor for the Clinical Faculty in Family Practice/Urology at the University of Wyoming.  He has authored over 60 articles on various urologic topic topics and is Editor-in-Chief of infections in Urology.

Kenneth I. Kolpan, Esq. has over 30 years experience in the practice of law and is a highly accomplished trial lawyer in medical malpractice.  He has lectured extensively and has written such publications as, "Medicolegal Aspects of Head Injury" and "Traumatic Brain Damage:  Damages, Rehabilitation, and Litigation Issues."

James J. Mangraviti, Jr., Esq. is a former trial lawyer with experience in defense and plaintiff personal injury law and insurance law.  He currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel of SEAK, Inc.  Mr. Mangraviti has published many texts regarding expert witnessing and has trained hundreds of physicians across the United States and Canada.
