Executive Summary

This is the finest continuing education available on the topic of independent medical evaluations. The dynamic and diverse faculty includes a distinguished IME physician, plaintiff and defense lawyers, an IME company executive and an innovative IME office manager. The learning methodology utilized will identify and solve the most pressing problems facing the Summit participants. Participants will be involved in a series of unique interactive learning experiences including mock direct and cross-examinations and demonstrations. Pre-Summit task assignments are utilized. Registration is strictly limited. Participants will be able to achieve markedly enhanced success in performing independent medical evaluations. Breakfast and lunch with faculty will be provided each day. A special bonus resource is provided for early registrants*. Past Summit participants have substantially increased the success of their IME practices, have been able to raise their fees and have vastly increased their IME practices.

Faculty:

Anthony J. Dorto, MD, FAADEP is the Medical Director of the Disability Assessment Center in Miami, Florida, which performs Independent Medical Evaluations, second opinions, functional capacity, and earning capacity assessments. Dr. Dorto is certified by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Disability Evaluation Physicians, and is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Dorto has lectured and written extensively on IMEs, symptom magnification and malingering, disability evaluation, and impairment rating.

Deborah Eagan, RN is the office manager of the Orthopaedic and Wellness Center in Gloversville, NY. She supervises the facility on a daily basis, which offers orthopedic care, physical therapy as well as neurology and orthotic services. She also supervises the independent medical examination portion of the practice. Debbie oversees the complex task of arranging IMEs at the main and satellite offices. She is a registered nurse and was head nurse in the post coronary care unit as well as nurse for the cardiac resuscitation team at Albany Medical Center. Debbie has expertise in the complex area of scheduling examinations and court testimony for an active orthopedic surgeon. The challenge of juggling this complex task in a busy orthopedic practice involves dealing with and building rapport with many legal offices. She also has extensive experience in dealing with billing matters for IMEs, record reviews and court appearances.

Thomas D. Johnson is the President of Abeton, a medical evaluation company headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Abeton’s flagship subsidiary, WMCI Prime Evaluations, has been a leader in the IME industry in the Western U.S. since 1984. While Vice President at WMCI, Mr. Johnson invented a unique, patent-pending method to significantly and objectively enhance the quality of medical consulting reports. Mr. Johnson holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University and an MBA from the University of Oxford, England.

Geoffrey J. Shapiro, Esquire is a graduate of the University of California at Berkley and Boston College Law School. Attorney Shapiro is a trial attorney with the Cleveland, Ohio law firm of Shapiro, Shapiro and Shapiro Co., L.P.A. where he has one of the most active trial practices in Northeast Ohio. He specializes in workers’ compensation personal injury, and insurance bad faith cases primarily representing plaintiffs. Attorney Shapiro began his legal career in California where he specialized in litigation representing defendants and insurers in personal injury defense and insurance coverage cases. He is admitted to practice in the courts of California and Ohio.

Vincent M. Tentindo, Esquire is the Managing partner of the Boston defense law firm of Tentindo, Kendall, Canniff & Keefe, LLP. The law firm specializes in workers’ compensation, employment, and general liability litigation. He was formerly a partner at Peabody & Arnold, LLP from 1990 to 1995 and was a member and Co-Chair of the Litigation Group and Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Group. From 1978-1995, Attorney Tentindo was an Associate and in 1981 a Partner at Parker, Coulter, Daley & White, a firm which specialized in litigation for the business and insurance industry. Attorney Tentindo received his BA from Boston College and his JD from Suffolk University Law School. Attorney Tentindo is also an Adjunct Professor of Law for the New England School of Law in Boston and teaches the course on Workers’ Compensation Practice and Proceedures.
