Dr. Dunaway will discuss the numerous opportunities available to physicians and why they are particularly well suited to capitalize on them. He will explore his personal journey of trading in his scalpel for a microphone and then will offer lessons learned for all physicians. Dr. Dunaway will review value identification and interpretation, permission to change, natural abilities and competencies of physicians, and how to take the first steps along your new journey. Ms. Dister will discuss the different types of physician executive opportunities in the market today, primarily focused on opportunities within integrated delivery systems, hospitals and systems, multispecialty group practices, academic/teaching hospitals and managed care. Ms. Dister will explain what these different healthcare segments are seeking when recruiting physician executives, including experience, post graduate business degrees, leadership qualities and specific skills and qualifications. Ms. Dister will present the most frequently asked questions and answers physician executives ask when preparing for physician executive roles. Dr. Winokur will discuss how to move away from denial and open your mind to the possibilities. She will explain her journey from a 2007 Non-Clinical Career Conference attendee to a successful non-clinical career. Dr. Winokur will review: making your first move, utilizing the conference as a springboard, calling and emailing, the use of a mentor or coach, articulating your best professional scenario, writing your non-clinical resume, obtaining informational interviews, and applying for positions, even if they are not perfect. Rebecca Chloe Winokur, MD is a clinical content editor, for Allscripts, an Electronic Health Record company. She received her BA from Colby College, her MA from Boston University School of Medicine, and her MD from the University of Vermont School of Medicine. Dr. Winokur is an assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine, Fletcher Allen Health Care. She was formerly a primary care and sports medicine physician at Associates in Orthopedic Surgery. She has been the recipient of both a teacher appreciation award and a teacher of the year award. Andrew Berens, MD, MBA
Dr. Berens will review some of the positions available to physicians in the financial industry and the general structure of this sector as it relates to the healthcare industry. He will discuss many of the challenges that exist when transitioning into this field, the overall compensation structure, the role of an equity research analyst, and what strengths physicians can bring to the field. Andrew Berens, MD, MBA is a senior research analyst and healthcare sector head at Bloomberg. He was one of the top-ranked junior analysts at Merrill Lynch and at Citigroup when covering the biotechnology sector. Dr. Berens received his MD from Emory University School of Medicine and his MBA in finance from Columbia University. Besides Merrill Lynch and Citigroup, Dr. Berens worked for Ikaria Pharmaceuticals in a business development position that involved in-licensing of pharmaceutical compounds, acquisitions and deal structure. Ron Ribitzky, MD

Prior to his appointment, he was Chief of Staff of Shriners Hospitals for Children-Intermountain (Salt Lake City). He received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario Medical School. Dr. Armstrong is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). He also serves as the Chair of the Surgeon Advisory Board for OrthoPediatrics, an orthopaedic company devoted to providing anatomically correct implants and devices for children. He is a member of numerous professional societies and organizations, among them: Canadian Orthopaedic Association; American Orthopaedic Association, American Burn Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, College of Physician Executives, American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. Dr. W. Richey Neuman is Vice President and Disease Area Lead for Vaccines at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, where he is the lead physician for vaccine activities. Prior to that, he was a Senior Director in Global Medical Affairs at Wyeth (now Pfizer) Pharmaceuticals, in charge of activities pertaining to the adult indication for the investigational 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. Dr. Neuman obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and completed residency in general internal medicine at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Following residency, Dr. Neuman was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Yale University School of Medicine, followed with additional training as an Ambulatory Care Fellow at Yale. Prior to medical school, Dr. Neuman received a Bachelor of Science from Stanford University, a Masters of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, and worked as a toxicologist/epidemiologist at the State of California Department of Health. Dr. Neuman Joined Wyeth in 2005. Prior to that, from 1997 to 2005 Dr. Neuman was Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he still teaches clinical epidemiology and in the internal medicine residents’ clinic. Dr. Neuman has lectured internationally on topics in internal medicine, clinical epidemiology, and adult pneumococcal vaccinology.

Dr. Joyce Johnson is Vice President, Health Sciences and the Chief Medical Officer in Battelle’s Health and Life Sciences Global Business (HLSGB) located in Arlington, VA. Dr. Johnson joined Battelle in December 2003 upon her retirement from the U.S. Public Health Service (Rear Admiral, Upper Half). She had been assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security, and functioned as the Coast Guard’s surgeon general. Her other government assignments included senior scientific and management positions with the Food and Drug Administration and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. She has held clinical positions at the National Institute of Mental Health and the Veterans Administration. At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she was an Epidemiologic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer and staff epidemiologist in the Center for Infectious Disease.
Dr. Johnson is a physician board certified in three specialties – Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and Psychiatry. In addition to her medical degree, she earned a master’s degree in Hospital and Health Administration, and has been conferred five honorary doctoral degrees.
